How to keep score in Badminton

Badminton uses rally scoring โ€” a point on every rally. Here is how points, serving sides and games work.

Rally scoring to 21

Games are played to 21 points and you must win by 2, capped at 30 (at 29-29 the next point wins). A point is scored on every rally, whether you served or not. A match is best of 3 games.

Who serves, and from which side

The winner of a rally serves next. In singles, you serve from the right service court when your score is even, and from the left when it is odd. In doubles the serving pair keeps the same server until they lose the rally.

Between games

The winner of a game serves first in the next game. Players change ends after each game, and in the third game when the leader reaches 11 points.
